'Zero' Market

Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre (HYC) will be organizing a weekend market named 'Zero' Market, to promote a sustainable lifestyle by selling fresh produces and meatless diet goods. Reach out to all youths, young parents, and residents of Nee Soon to visit during their free periods. Youth can help path a way to spread eco-awareness to the current and future generations. The market makes a greater influence by re-locating to other venues and therefore contains design elements ( flexible ) that are quick to adjust to new contexts and requirements. In addition to promoting sustainability, materials that are environmentally friendly were used in the making of the market.

Design Statement

To create a space that is relaxing and innovative to youths and others. Zero markets will integrate the minimalistic design and materials influenced by Humanistic Youth Centre to promote sustainability. Space will accommodate craft stores and fresh produce. It aims to educate the public enjoyably and create connections between youth and the public. Repetition of lines and materials will be used to give a distinctive recognition of the place to the viewer’s eyes. The contrast between colours and design elements will work harmoniously together, giving it a ‘pop’ to the market.

Retail Pop Up Stall

I wanted to create shelves and spaces where they would interlock when closed. The boxes are rearranged for the retail shops to meet the standard human ergonomic needs. Boxes are used as seats, displays, and storage. Shoppers are able to access the shop more conveniently as they get to see the merchandise through the open spaces of the design.

Fruits & Vegetables Stall

A juice bar is set up at the fruits and vegetables stall for visitors to enjoy some freshly made healthy juice. Boxes are reused from stalls that do not need them to display fresh products. They are stack up in a way that will be easily visible to the visitors and have easy access.
