Aviation Academy

In this project, spaces in the aviation school are refined to improve the teaching and learning experiences for users. Integrating the character and ambiance of the spaces and relating them to the aviation spirit. The connectivity across the different parts of the building, with the intent to improve social bounding across the student and staff communities. Make relevant and appropriate use of the empty spaces available on-site to make the school more welcoming.

Design Statement

To integrate a space that helps to enhance the learning experience for the aviation students and give character to the academy. The new designs will create connection and flow throughout the repetitive floors. Spaces will be enhanced to their full extent to provide more opportunities for communication. It aims to be a learning environment where students find it engaging to study and pursue their goals. Repetition of linear elements to make the space more complex. Addition of different materials and playing with light enhance the overall atmosphere, making the academy more welcoming.

Some issues that were found in the building were that the building levels were repetitive, spaces were compacted, and many unused spaces. Lack of connectivity. Thus, when designing the place, I wanted to create connectivity between each level, to allow interaction to take place. Creating voids was one of the ways to achieve the aim, and enhance the space. To allow more ventilation and less compact.

The main point of the concept was to use different heights to make the building and spaces more fun and integrated. For example, the classrooms were built at different heights that resembled stacked cubics. Concrete was the main material used in the building previously, thus I wanted to introduce a new material, which was wood and glass. the transparency of the glass helps to create connections between the classrooms and the corridors.

The building also consists of aviation elements for example, like study space design to resemble an airport lounge. Overall, the building was refined to look more modernized and connective to encourage interaction between students.
